beachcomb

beach'comb, v., to search for pocket treasures (rocks, shells, etc.) along the shoreline in a slow, random pattern, usually involving melancholy or introspective thoughts; as in she spent the morning beachcombing in the beautiful autumn sunshine...

"Pocket" being the operative word. With my luck, the kids would find some derelict row boat they'd want to drag home. Oh, wait. "Introspective thoughts" means the kids don't get to come, right? Then we're good.
